Arab Atomic Energy Agency’s Conference Begins in Tunisia

The 29th edition of the general conference of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA) began Sunday in Tunis.The conference is a key event to evaluate the Agency’s programs in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy.

Salem Hamdi, director of AAEA pointed out that the agency is called upon to play a leading role in the development of the peaceful uses of atomic energy in the Arab countries, saying this energy “has become a necessity in the agricultural, health, industrial and sustainable development sectors”.

Quoted by Tunisian TAP news agency, the director of AAEA stressed the importance of the Agency’s role in solving several problems facing the Arab countries, including water stress and the growing demand for the use of atomic energy in desalination, in addition to the uses in the fields of nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, soil fertility, improvement of plant and animal production and fight against vegetal and animal pathologies.

He pointed out that the development of Arab societies will increase energy demands over the next few years, which requires finding objective and technical solutions taking into account the limits of fossil energy in terms of quantity and sustainability. (QNA)
