Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri, said yesterday that the threat made by siege countries to the State of Qatar of further sanctions is a violation and an international crime against international law and international ethics.
This came during remarks made by Al Marri following two separate meetings he held with Head of Middle East and North Africa Department (UD Mena) at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ann Dismorr and Dr Gustaf Lind, who is head of international law and acting head of legal affairs at the Swedish parliament.
NHRC Chairman said that he explained during the two meeting the increase in violations made by the siege countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain) against the citizens of Qatar.
NHRC Chairman also said that there was also a discussion of the collective punishment enforced on them as well as on citizens of those countries who have families, investments, education, or health-related interests.
There were also violations to the right of transportation and to the freedom of religious practice.
NHRC Chairman said highlighted the historic and honourable positions taken by the people of Sweden in similar crises, and their stand with people’s just causes and protection of civilians’ rights.
Al Marri also noted that the two meetings reviewed the unprecedented violations that the GCC is suffering from as a result of the siege laid on Qatar, adding that Swedish officials in the parliament and the ministry of foreign affairs were provided with all the reports and documents gathered by the NHRC since the beginning of the crisis.
