A Qatari businessman has expressed confidence that the rift between Qatar and other neighbouring countries will be sorted out soon.
“Families in the GCC region are intertwined and related to each other through marriage, friendship, and business, among others,” Farhan al-Sayed told Gulf Times.
While describing the decision of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE to sever diplomatic ties with Qatar as unfair (treatment) to a member state, he believed that “such misunderstanding” will be resolved.
The Qatari businessman noted that everyone in the region knows each other and “every tribe has good and bad days.” “Sometimes there are some misunderstandings and I will consider this one as a misunderstanding.”
“I am definite that, with some wisdom, it will be solved soon especially that most people in the region are observing the month of fasting and prayers,” he said. “It is a time when you observe kindness, peace, and forgiveness.”
The decision to sever ties with Qatar has surprised the locals, especially since it has been done in this blessed time, according to al-Sayed.
“We are thankful to Allah and for the wise leadership of our Emir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and will soon see the normalisation of relations with our neighbours,” he said.
About the economic implications of the rift, al-Sayed believes GCC businesses will get hurt and affected with this move,” he said.
He added that the whole Asian market is waiting to supply “us as much goods as possible and we know now how competitive they are.”
