Qatar Museums announces innovative ‘Chef in Residence’ programme

As part of Qatar Museums’ (QM) commitment to inspire and nurture emerging talent, QM has announced an exciting ‘Chef in Residence’ programme, which offers cooking enthusiasts the opportunity to take part in a unique initiative that will prepare and foster them for a well-defined culinary career.

Under the guidance of Qatar Museums’ Chairperson, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and in partnership with Salam Hospitality, the ‘Chef in Residence’ programme is open to all residents of Qatar. Whilst a culinary school background is preferred, the programme is open to any promising, ambitious and passionate individual looking to develop their gastronomic profession.

As part of the residency, the chosen individual will have the opportunity to be mentored by Salam Hospitality’s Executive Chef and the Head Chef at Café #999, the Fire Station’s latest eatery. The programme will focus on developing the individuals’ skills in all cooking areas, provide customised cooking training, and will have the resident play a role and becoming part of the Café #999 team, in addition to experiencing and receiving training at the various Salam Hospitality restaurants.

At the end of the programme, the resident will be evaluated on the development of their own culinary creations that could potentially be included in the Café’s menu.

Phil Lawrie, Chief Commercial Officer at Qatar Museums, said:“At Qatar Museums, we are honoured to present to the community an initiative that perfectly complements our ongoing ‘Artist in Residence’ programme. We are also grateful for our partners Salam Hospitality for helping us make this initiative come to life. The ‘Chef in Residence’ programme is something we believe is very important for the development of the creative generation in Qatar, as it looks to give local talent a platform to experiment, learn and grow.”

The Chef in Residence programme takes its inspiration from QM’s Fire Station Artist in Residence programme, which started in September 2015.
