Bedaya organises workshop on scheduling exercise sessions during Ramadan

The Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech recently hosted a workshop on planning and creating exercise sessions for the holy month of Ramadan. This was organised in collaboration with sports instructor, Khaled Al Ameri.

During the workshop, Khaled Al Ameri tackled two important aspects of physical training: the initial focus was on creating a training schedule based on fitness factors, body readiness, weight loss and muscle gain. The second aspect was on the methods to train during Ramadan based on proper timing and duration, and the reasons behind muscle relaxation.

Al Ameri also highlighted fitness factors such as endurance, strength, speed, flexibility and agility in addition to general and physical preparation before exercising, as well other training such as aerobics and anaerobic exercises.

During the workshop, the audience were given examples on training schedules for beginners starting with warming up, stretching, exercising and cooling down. He also demonstrated the order of training for medium and advanced individuals including warming up, stretching, advanced warming up, main exercise, cooling down.

Al Ameri further elaborated on the need for muscle relaxation and its relation with sudden weight loss, and the best ways of exercising during the holy month of Ramadan. He emphasised that by choosing the right time and duration for aerobic & anaerobic exercise, and by consuming healthy food such as dairy products, grains, vegetables, proteins and fruits, we can  provide the body with what it needs.

On this occasion, Reem Al-Suwaidi, General Manager of Bedaya Center said: “Some feel that fasting during the holy month of Ramadan will make them weak and pale, while others see it as the best time to maintain physical health and composition by adapting exercises that help sustain their activity and strength.”

“Due to the nature of holy month of Ramadan, we preferred to highlight the best ways of exercising without feeling weak and frail. With the support of the talented physical instructor, Khaled Al Ameri, we were able to bring forth to our audience the mechanism of creating a training schedule that fits each individual,” she added.

Physical instructor, Khaled Al Ameri commented: “One should plan and create a schedule for sports training during the holy month of Ramadan, as the main energy source during the fasting period is fat stored in the body. Further, due to long fasting hours and existing high climatic temperature, the workout plan must be based on scientific facts  exposing the body to harm.”
