Summer camps for kids offer variety of healthy activities

Summer is here and several organisations and schools are offering various activities for kids at various summer camps to keep children busy in healthy activities.

Talking to The Peninsula Amina Khanum, operational manager at TEM xplorers located in Ain Khaled Gate, said: “Our unique idea of summer camp is one of its kind, our concept includes combination of activities such as physical activities (sports) with science and Lego with engineering concepts. At the end of the day, we have the satisfaction that our kids are doing something different. The summer camp we are hosting is in collaboration with Jungle Zone. The camp includes magical shows, paper crafts, etc.”
“TEM xplorers focuses on four important elements science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Children here come up with interesting ideas and we help them implement them,” she further added.
TEM xplorers summer camp is for children of 4 to 16 years of age. They charge QR550 per week and monthly QR2,000. This summer camp ends on August 31.
Among expatriate families, it’s very common to go back home once the schools close, especially when the extreme summer temperatures go up. Parents are wheeling out their web search skills or making the use of phone to organise their children’s free time.
“We always look forward to summer camps for our three kids. Such activities help them be confident, encourage them to participate and always shape up their personality. Since two years they have been to different summer camps as we, being parents, have different jobs and timings. These summer camps make them busy and engage them to do something productive,” said Emma, a mother of three kids. Most of the activities this year are being conducted indoors as there is always the danger of children being exposed to extreme heat. Other safety requirements in the camp sites are also factors parents take care of.
Nirmala Guru, programme instructor, life coach and child mentor at iLead Workshop, said: “This summer camp programme is unique in all aspects catering to children from the age 5 to 16. I simplify make things effective for the children, in order to reach it, accept it and inculcate it with ease, in their own creative way. The camp focuses on Activity Based Learning. We run two categories of programme, Budding Champions for kids and Future Leaders for teens.” “Along with these programmes we have special workshops with games to entertain and educate children. The games concentrate on sensitivity training, JAM (Just-A-Minute) contests, role plays vocabulary games, to name a few,” she added.
The classes are held at Wisdom Education Centre, behind Lulu hypermarket, D-ring road. They charge QR1,000 which lasts for four weeks and summer camp ends on July 27.
